Warning: Unsafe topic: Religion!

Healing .. or Reeling…

In the name of Religion:….

Divided-by-Religion

Am I too cynical when I agree with

Napoleon Bonaparte! who is quoted as saying:

“Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich”

In other words: religion is a tool to control the plebs.

Might you have an interesting quote on the subject yourself?

  1. I love the image and here’s a quote,

“When his life was ruined, his family killed, his farm destroyed, Job knelt down on the ground and yelled up to the heavens, “Why god? Why me?” and the thundering voice of God answered, There’s just something about you that pisses me off.”

  2. I don’t have another quote for the occasion, but I agree with both you and Napoleon. Religion tend to become a matter of power over others (and not talking about faith or spirituality which is an individual quest). A thought provoking photo.

  3. OMG, unsafe topic indeed – and good for you for venturing upon it! And a very good and apposite image too.

And a quote – yes I have a quote. Can’t recall the source, but the gist is that, up until the Modern Era – shall we say up to1950??? – the three entities that kept the masses in the UK under control (aka trampled underfoot), were the Monarchy, the Church and the Army.

Let’s be very grateful that we no longer live in those archaic days. Not everything about British life that has appeared since the 1950s has been to the good, but at least the monarchy has become awesomely irrelevant, and the dear old CoE no longer has such a hold over us spiritually, with its threat of everlasting Hell and damnation should we step out of line or dare to think for ourselves. And the Army is being cut back, which is worrying – I have a feeling that future events may stop or reverse that trend.

    Good post, Paula! Adrian
