How come:
we built churches, so achingly stunning
for ‘loving’ deities in whose names we have and
continue to commit the most hideous atrocities imaginable.

I sell collectibles and art online and often find the things I've found have hilarious and at times, dark stories to tell. It's thrilling for me to be creatively random, so always expect the unexpected in the things I share with you.

It’s a paradox, isn’t it? Everything about our species is a paradox.

Built for a glory of God… who don’t need a glory of mankind. Beautiful English gothic, great captured by you :-).

Amazing architecture. Love the inclusion of the woman for scale.

A very relevant question. And one that points to the utmost paradox of religion. Nevertheless, the photo is beautiful, or maybe for that reason.

Beautiful picture. Hahaha!, we are clones, my friend – I’m thinking of something similar from Bristol Cathedral which, based on the opulence of its funerary monuments, I think a cathedral for the “have’s” in society, no monuments there to the swathes of poorer people, including those who actually helped construct the place.
But what you are talking about is Human Nature, and its overwhelming and never ending predilection for religions, tribes, nations, flags, national anthems, racialism and so on: all of these things are hard-wired into us and, covertly or not, gone along with by those who value these groupings. A 🙂

The deities take a bum rap from interpreters with axes to grind. These interpreters, I’ll call them, play “I-know-best” one-upsmanship games that pit people against each other. Better to commune directly with the deities and leave out the middleman.

I’ve often wondered the same thing…and then when you add the music to those magnificent structures….why doesn’t beauty reside in our collective souls?
