The other side

One big mystery

Eyes that do not recognise

Speech impossible to understand

result of Alzheimer’s. Never did a photo I had created have so much impact at my presentations as this one, many came and talked to me how the loss of someone to this terrible illness affected them and how this photo ‘spoke’ to them.

  1. I’m curious to know what prompted you to make this image….but in a way, I can guess and it may not matter. I can imagine it would be moving for anyone who’s dealt with dementia close up. I worked with people with dementia and their families and friends, as a social worker, until recently. It’s a gut-wrenching disease. Such a photograph, Paula, it just really hits the mark!

  2. This image made me think immediately of Egon Schiele. He made realistic paintings and died far too young. Our brain is still a mystery and dementia tells us how important it is for al functions, behaviour and feelings
    Impressive image Paula!

    • Thank you for these kind words..the photo is not for liking…it is not a ‘nice’ photo , it is trying, indeed , to present the difficulties in the life of those who have the illness and those who are touched by it also, family, friends etc. it can be very baffling to be with someone you thought you knew…who appears to behave totally opposite to what you expect and know. Thank you again.
